Historic Lobby

Spruce Pine, NC

2019

When designing Historic Lobby the goal was to take an existing building and recreate the interior. The new space will accommodate the Highland Craftsman company, a business that manufactures products from the local Appalachian area. They strive to take local natural products and showcase them to their community. Highland Craftsman wanted to create a space for entertainment while following city codes. Marketing was important to the company as the building will become a rentable space for members of the community. Highland Craftsman’s Bark House products are displayed throughout the space. The reception desk is a combined design of bark house products and modern materials. Products are exhibited as wall coverings along the staircase, hallway, and the upstairs reception area. The conference room showcases the Bark House logo as well as a conference table made from their products. When guests enter the space they can see what Highland Craftsman has to offer as a business. The exposed brick not only leaves a historical mark on the building but showcases how the company reuses products and incorporates them into a new design.  When designing Historic Lobby the goal was to take an existing building and recreate the interior. This page showcases some of my commercial projects that I have completed during my undergrad. The projects focus on different principles such as marketing, ergonomics, proxemics, space-planning, wayfinding, and historical precedence.

FLOOR PLAN

Toy Inc. is a large company that just purchased a new space and is looking to continue construction in the future. With a building so large it is important to distinguish the difference and privacy within each department. Wayfinding was essential in this space. Each department was given a color when entering the lobby, the guests could see which color represented which department by the design behind the reception desk. The different colors lead guests throughout the building and into each department. Each department has an accent color that is shown through a paint color and Mannington carpet flooring. The lines draw emphasis to the president's favorite artist Debra Hurd by framing the artwork. The space offers sociopetal and sociofugal seating as well as the conference areas with acoustic paneling. The second floor of the building is empty and is ready for expansion when the company is ready to grow.
