SENIOR LIVING

Ruby Ridge

Chattanooga, TN

2020

Ruby Ridge is a luxury retirement community offering independent, assisted, and memory care living located in Chattanooga, TN. When designing Ruby Ridge the purpose was to take unique factors from the area and incorporate those things into the design. One of the largest tourist attractions in the area is Ruby Falls in Lookout Mountain, therefore the interior and exterior reflect from the space. While pulling inspiration from many factors the facility's mission statement is The Timeless Jewel. The statement is meant to serve and communicate to the residents and family that Ruby Ridge is a place where people can come and live a luxurious life, while aging they will be treated with the best care possible. The campus consist of 16 different residences that are broken down into 4 different pods. Each pod is assigned a different jewel, and the interior of the building will reflect that jewel. This is a simple aspect of wayfinding as each building is unique and identifiable. All amenities building will be ruby red and all amenities will be available to all residents during their stay at Ruby Ridge. Different jewel types are seen throughout campus one being the donor wall located in the administrative area this wall ties all the components of the campus together as the jewel colors are shown throughout the wall.  The campus consists of neutral colors with the exception of the assigned accent color. Rustic wood mixed with bright jewel tones are the palette for the campus as they offer different textures. Residents and family can explore what Ruby Ridge has to offer while they enjoy the beautiful aesthetics and premium amenities without the personal upkeep. Ruby Ridge is a place residents can call home.

During my undergrad, I had the opportunity to learn about the many different concepts it takes to create a space for senior citizens. Space-planning, proxemics, ergonomics, and an over all understanding of human behavior are essential to these designs. The goal is to create a safe and functional space for the residents as they venture into their new phase of life.

BEHIND RUBY RIDGE

Ruby Ridge's architecture takes after the famous tourist attraction Ruby Falls in Lookout Mountain. The Timeless Jewel showcases the care of the residents and how they are treated like a precious jewel by the staff of Ruby Ridge and the luxurious amenities offered by the facility. Each greenhouse is named after a different jewel type, interior and exterior materials and finishes reflect this. The logo showcases the mountains and waterfall found in Ruby Falls and is a symbolization to those who founded the famous site.

SITE PLAN

Ruby Ridge's exterior was inspired by Ruby Falls. The buildings are a combination of stone and siding. Each building has a carport for easy access for residents and guests. The rounded windows are a unique feature and allows lots of natural light to enter the building. Different wayfinding techniques are used through doors and columns as well as different colors. The campus is easy to guide and offers many different services for residents.
